Australia’s love affair with Hawaii has been growing for the past several years. If you’re one of the few Aussies who still hasn’t visited the islands, here’s why you should make the trip in 2017.
1. Flights are cheaper than ever
Like really, really cheap. This year airlines and travel agents have been offering return flights from Australian capital cities to Honolulu for as little as $517 return. For an international flight across the Pacific this is amazing value. Sign up to our newsletter to keep up to date with the latest Hawaii flights on sale.
2. Plenty of accommodation options
There are close to 300 hotels sprinkled across Hawaii’s islands, so there’s something to suit every budget and taste. Waikiki Beach itself has a plethora of options whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway, a relaxing atmosphere or family getaway with self-catering apartments.
3. Shopping, shopping, shopping
From high end to outlet malls Hawaii has it all if you’re looking for shopping. You can find big brands like Kate Spade and Coach on the main street near Waikiki Beach or travel to the outlets to grab a bargain at seriously reduced prices. You’ll also want to check out Ala Moana shopping centre – a huge indoor, outdoor mall that offers a large range of retailers and eating options.
4. It’s family friendly
Whether you travel on your own, as a couple, with a group of friends or as a family, you can find something for everyone in Hawaii. Chill out with sundown cocktails or test your limits with a zipline adventure, and you can even send little ones off to the kids club for guilt free travel.
5. The food options are a-plenty
Hawaii has one of the most interesting, multicultural cuisines in the world. It’s a delicious mix of Polynesian, European, American, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese and Puerto Rican (just for starters). That means you’ll find everything from traditional taro and whole roast pig to poke (a raw cured fish dish) and even Spam sushi. You can’t visit Honolulu without a visit to the world famous Cheesecake Factory too which has a menu so big it’s dotted with local advertisers.
6. It’s good for your soul and your health
Hawaii is home to some of the best spas and wellness retreats in the world, so you can take the time to really focus on yourself with some well deserved R&R. You can also be as active or as relaxed as you like, trying your hand at yoga or standup paddleboarding or going the more traditional massage and facial route.
7. Near perfect year round temperatures
There’s almost never a bad time to visit Hawaii in terms of weather. Days are warm and sunny all year round and if it does happen to be raining on one island, you can hop across to another one with clear skies.
